The mask

Jeffrey Stuker

Thursday 01.22.2015 | 8pm

A presentation on the extent to which technologies of mimicry present themselves as natural.
Representing the Seeld Library, Jeffrey Stuker will share sequences of images from a film documenting the Fulgora laternaria, a highly mimetic Hemiptera. A reading will accompany the images from "The Mask," the first translation of an essay by Roger Caillois, which treats the morphology of this winged insect as an allegory for the constitution of the human subject in the visual field.
